I bought this feeder the other day in order to give the small birds a chance, the bird table being dominated by pigeons, starlings - and a squirrel! I'm using RSPB favourites blend in it (sunflower hearts, dried mealworms and pieces of suet pellet) and it mostly attracts Goldfinches in threes and fours - emptying in 4 or 5 days. I did once notice a Starling fleetingly having a go.
This morning I filled it up early and went off to childmind my grandson. Returning two hours later I looked out of the window and the feeder was completely empty. My first thought was "Oh no, the Starlings have cracked it!" but then my wife told me she'd been watching and counted up to 20 Goldfinches queuing and scrapping to get to this feeder!
Never assume where birds are concerned lol
Looks like a good one SG, typical when you are not there!!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
sounds like the perfect feeder to attract the smaller birds, nice one Ian.

It's going to cost you a fortune in seed now the Goldfinch have found you Ian! They come in large numbers to my feeders and just demolish all the sunflower hearts! Great sight to see though.
