Seed feeder germinating.

I seem to be having a problem with my seed feeder. After a few days the seeds are germinating and so the bottom of the feeder has green shoots coming up . These are very hard to clean out and needs to be done regularly every few days . Is there a way of stopping this happening ? Somebody suggested putting the seeds in a microwave to "kill" them off. Any ideas anyone ? Many thanks in advance . Graham
