Hi there
Has anyone noticed that whole peanuts are not the in thing for birds now (other than Great Spotted woodpeckers and Squirrels)
I have got to the point I feel I do not want to refill the Peanut feeder at the nesxt house
Any else noticed the same thing?
Regards
Kathy and Dave
I too have noticed that peanuts (and also fat-balls) have been ignored by our garden birds over the last 2 years. We live in an urban area in the south and are visited mostly by sparrows and starlings.
They can't get enough large fat-snacks and premium non-mess bird-food. They also delight in the fruity-nibbles but those are very expensive. I have shrubs with berries and a grape-vine covered in small grapes that the birds, starlings and black-birds, will relish later in the year.
Hi
given up with peanuts since I started spoiling the birds with sunflower hearts.
a good laugh is better than a tonic
Peanut granules are a big hit at my house - every scrap is eaten!
Goes in cycles here the peanuts stay put for a while and then poof they are gone and refilling once a week. cant keep up with the sunflower hearts they get filled up virtually daily at much expense. I love it though.
I used to be indecisive................... But now I am not so sure.
Hi,
I put out a mesh hanging feeder with RSPB Premium peanuts over a month ago and it has hardly been touched. The sunflower hearts, table mix and suet balls are all being consumed at an alarming rate but nothing is touching the peanuts. I have seen sparrows, goldfinches, greenfinches, bluetits, starlings and the four engined things attacking everything we put out so no lack of birds.
Any ideas anyone
David
I think that the birds have common sense and know to avoid them.
The squirrels are having a whale of the time, but also eating my fat balls
