Bread ?

I realise this question has been raised before but please allow this newbie to find a definitive answer . For years I have put bread out for birds in my garden but I have just read a question on this forum about bread causing damage to some birds . However the article seemed concerned with larger type seabirds , geese etc.. How does this all apply to smaller garden birds? When I put bread out it is not dry and stale but I thoroughly soak it in water and so it becomes a soggy mass but the woodpigeons , blackbird ,starlings etc seem to lap it up. Am I doing wrong ?? If so I will stop it ---- I obviously don`t want to cause damage . Will a little do harm ?----- Graham
