Just a quick hanger query. I have a hanger pole for 3 feeders and it's lost a foot in height due to having to firmly entrench it so one of the feeders is about a foot from the ground. Will this deter any birds who may only feed from high up? I regularly get sparrows (lots!), great & blue tits, goldfinches, starlings, blackbirds and the odd linnet. Robins too, but they use the table feeder.

I suspect that the problem about the feeder being so near to the ground is that it might make birds vulnerable to cats. It might also attract rats which could leap onto it.
Could you not get an extension pole to raise it higher?

Do you know where I could get one? If they sold those poles individually it would help with people who have to push some of the height into the ground due to strong wind.
My suggestion would be to drive a long strong stake into the ground first & then you could just push the feeder pole in a little way right beside it & attach to the stake using those strong plastic cable ties, I find they are a godsend for awkward places! I have one of my pole feeders attached in this way to a trellis panel so that I could site it next to my porch to keep birds away from mizzy neighbours!!

We drove a long hollow metal rod in first and out the pole into that. We also do the same for single very high feeders, you can lift the pole out to refill

One is a long plastic or nylon water pipe so plumbers I should think. Another is an old metal water pipe we found in a skip! Love M
