Sage & Onion Stuffing so nice birds love it!!

First and foremost Happy New Year all, I have not been on here much and certainly have not been getting out as much as I would have liked due to this constant wet weather.

Heres a interesting fact I found out today, birds especially Starlings like Sage and Onion stuffing, we found a packet in the back of the larder which had justgone out of date and as I was making a new batch of pastry I was going to include it in the mix so as not to waste it. I then thought if I mixed it with the main batch and the birds didnt like it  that would be an even worse wate so I just made a small batch with the stuffing a little lard and some sead mix.

I put it in the branch I drilled out for the pastry mix and soon hoards of Starlings along with Magpies and Jackdaws have turned up and are making short work of it.

With my often warped sense of humour I wondered what the resident Sparrowhawk would make of the Sage and Onion fed Starlings should it take one.

  • My guess is that it would remove the giblets first...

rofl !!     and it would probably ask for fresh chicken stock gravy to accompany its starling meal.

  • Happy New Year Shane,      Trying to use new laptop and having a Jack Russell sitting next to me doesn't help!!!!   Keep hitting the wrong keys.

Trust the corvids to enjoy the sage and onion, they seem to like everything, and have huge appetites.

I'm getting a little fed up with this weather too, and looks like this week won't be much better,  the  sparrows and starlings still bathing though.

    Lot to learn

  • As long as they Are not expecting the rest of the turkey dinner to go with the stuffing!!!

Happy New Year also to you and yours Shane.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Happy new year Shane, Karen & all ... well my Starlings won't get that as a treat as I bought frozen ones this year ... then forgot I had so they can stay in freezer til next Xmas!! Lol
