As the bird activity begins to pick up we had to visit the store again to purchase another bulk supply of peanuts/suet/kibbles/sunflower seeds/hearts/fat balls ............... these birds live in luxury !
at the store .......... mortgage applied for lol (and we had forgotten the two bags of sunflower hearts which we had to go back for ! )
there's two bags of sunflower hearts under that lot lol ............
into the garage - stored in large Cool-boxes which keeps seeds nice and dry, vermin and slug free !
a banquet for them !! and that doesn't include the footballs, suet blocks and live mealworms !
Well this lot should last Cyril about a week lol !!!

lol Tony, buy it from H.J.Lea-Oaks (Sandbach) as it works out cheaper (ha ha ! ) to buy in bulk from them. Still cost me arm and a leg but should last till March hopefully ! Reason I stocked up was it stays fresh in the coolboxes and plastic sacks and didn't want to venture out if the weather turned to snow and ice in Jan/Feb !!
Got ....... 30 kg kibbled peanuts, 30kg sunflower hearts, 15kg no mess mixed seed (without wheat ! ) 30 kg whole peanuts, 12 kg berry suet pellets, 15 kg black sunflower seeds, 150 fat balls and we had a kilo of live mealworms delivered today so they have a real smorgasbord ! And guess what we're having for dinner tonight ? cheap "as chips" liver and onions with mash and vegetables lol I'm coming back as a bird next life lol
No wonder there's not all that many birds in my garden - they've all migrated to Cheshire. I'm coming back as a Cyril but only if I can live in your garden. LOL
When are you off to the Moss? Did you read the recent L. Moss blog?
www.rspb.org.uk/.../not-too-wet-for-wildlife.aspx
Lol Tony, you're welcome in Cheshire any time. Thanks for the link to L.Moss; I telephoned them yesterday and although much of the reserve is closed we can still access four hides including the two at Morecambe Bay where a lot of reserve birds have moved to so, all in all, we should have plenty to go at. We hope to meet up with two forumites ... Jim who will be there the same three days as us and Jason who is off work Friday so will join us :) I'm sure with the aid of wellington boots we will have a good time and there's always the cafe if we need a break/ refreshment from the rain, wind and squelching our way round the areas permitted ! I hope we get to see the Otters again, they are brilliant.
Nice to meet up with other Forumites. I'm sure you will have a good time whatever the weather throws at you.
Are you doing your usual London trip this Xmas or staying at home?
I'm spending Christmas with my cousin in rural Gloucestershire with a big family get together just after. I'm hoping I might be able to get to Slimbridge if the weather is decent. Seeing all the Bewick's Swans being fed is quite a spectacle.
Thanks Tony, as you say, i'm sure we'll have a good time whatever and we hope to try to see Hawfinches at Sizergh Castle which is nearby. As far as Christmas goes, we used to stay at the lovely Langham Hotel as it was the only holiday we had each year and didn't mind paying that bit extra to get the Exec.lounge benefits as it worked out cheaper than staying in standard room and paying for meals separately, however, when I looked at the advance booking back in September the price had shot up by £150-200 a night !!! which was ridiculous when we paid under £300 the last three years (incl. the usual food the lounge includes); the current rate was £488 so I think that's the end of our Langham days lol We are paying £30- £35 pn for the studio room at Carnforth so a bit of a difference ha ha. Prefer to spend the extra on the birds anyway as it is certainly more value and I may treat Mike to a nice pair of binoculars.
Hope you have a great time with the family get-together and manage to get a trip in to Slimbridge; we visited a year or so ago and it was wonderful. Talking about the feeding of the Bewick Swans I remember seeing the feeding at Martin Mere and it was hilarious as all the wildfowl knew what was happening and it was wings and beaks everywhere as they raced in towards the food lol Took a video of it somewhere !
Wow, you could open a shop with all that Hazel :)
