Feeding starlins

I've invested about £200 pounds in creating a wildlife garden, so far everything is going better than I expected, my family love it and so do both of my neighbors) when I firsted started putting bird food out I started to attract 15+ wood pigeons after invest in some better feeders they've now left the garden, I now a better divestiture of birds visiting the garden(blue tits, gold finches, black birds, jays, robins dunnocks, starrlims and a few others) recently I've been getting more and more starlins. Should I leave them alone and carry on letting their numbers grow in my garden? Originally I had 4-5 I now have a small flock of 20.... They are eating everything I put out which is great but I feel the other birds are now getting left out.... Should I invest more money in a few extra feeding stations for the small birds?
  • Hello Christopher, good to hear you have plenty of birds visiting. Starling's love to eat from feeders etc.  let the numbers grow as they will have their young soon.

I have about 6-8 starling's fighting over food in the feeders.  The other birds do come back if yours (like mine) have certain time slots in the day.  Usually breakfast, eleven's, 3 pm and before roosting.

  • Thank you, I love them, I was just a little worried about the other birds that all lol, I'll put out extra suet products around 'their' feeder to just try encourage them to move away from the tray thus leaving something for the others. + I'll add another feeder for the smaller birds, something a little more out of sight.  Thanks again

  • I am the same as you Christopher, I have a small flock about 15 ish they eat everything and anything i put out - except Niger seed - I have put a log under one of my pyracantha bush, Which they have no idea about so my other birds such as Robin, Blackbirds, Wren and Sparrows have their own secret stash. You can get a caged feeder which as one point i was considering so that my blue tit and others get a chance but atm they have dropped in numbers, but i now have the Mob instead (2 Carrion Crows & 1 hoodie crow) who eat almost more than the starlings and make alot more mess... so may have to buy the cage to keep them under control a bit :(
