Feeding birds regularly

I have been feeding the birds in my urban/city garden twice daily and now have about 30 sparrows visiting for food at least twice daily. We are away at the end of September for a week and I'm not sure if I should reduce the feeding now to stop them relying on it too much. I could ask a neighbour to help out a couple of times would that be enough? Please advise me.
  • Hi Jane, It is a problem when you have been regularly feeding the birds, they get so used to food on tap as it were, but I'm pretty sure that if you have a kindly neighbour that would help out then they will return to normal once you are home again.  Also it won't be cold weather hopefully at the end of Sept., so the birds will still find plenty of seed etc around.

    Lot to learn

  • Thank you Gaynorsl, I feel more reassured now. This is the first year that we have had so many small birds in the area so I don't want to loose them, they are such a joy to see and help to look after.
