Hi Kerry Im sorry to have to tell you that what you almost certainly saw was a blackbird feeding a juvenile blackbird. The young blackbirds look to have markings on their chest and its easy to think they are a thrush. These markings fade as they become adults though you can sometimes see them faintly on adult females. You will also notice that a song thrush is a much lighter colour on its back.
Baby robins also have this speckled appearance.
