We have a family of these rodents in our garden, feeding off the bird feeders and bits spilled by the birds. The adults are about 6" long (15 cm) plus tail. They have a paler belly and pale feet. I think they are field mice but my husband thinks that they are so large they may be rats, and therefore wants me to stop putting bird food out. Can anyone help identify them?

6" long is way bigger than Field Mice , looks ratty to me
Your husband is right. Wood mice (sometimes known as field mice) are small and brown with proportionately large eyes and ears, and largely nocturnal. Definitely rats, and various ages I suspect (so various sizes).
