We regularly have the great spotted woodpecker and the green woodpecker visit out garden but today I saw this one for the first time.....looks very grey to me but my research tells me grey woodpeckers are not in the UK. Any ideas?
Can't see your bird very clearly but I suspect it's a juvenile Green Woodpecker.
Here's a photo of a juvenile and you can see that the green feathers are only partially emerging from the grey fledgling feathers.
