We have a pair of collared doves nesting in our Wisteria. We first noticed them in April 2023 and since then they have had six broods of at least one chick, more often, two. Is this normal behaviour? They even had a brood in February this year. There are two chicks in the nest at present and we will soon have to be on Magpie and Jackdaw duty when they fledge or else there will be carnage. Will they always use this nest or look for a new site at some point?
I don't know about reuse of the same nest, but it is not unusal for dove species to have young at any time of year. They can do this because of the production of 'crop milk' that is used to feed the young birds, the production of which is not tied to any seasonal foodstuff.
