There is this pigeon who visits my garden in the morning for a feed. I've noticed he makes this noise and it is concerning me. I noticed this 3 days ago and thought it was gone but he's back doing it again. He stops making the noise when eating but as soon as he stops and wanders, he does the noise again. You'd have to listen real close to your phone speaker up loud to hear as he was on the roof at this point (but obviously only if you can't hear it at first).
Is it anything to worry about? Any advice on how to contain to get help if so?

There is a forum user called Monkeycheese who is very knowledgeable about pigeons so hopefully they will be along and can comment - are there any other pigeons about? I wonder if its a contact call of some sort

Yes I get a lot of pigeons. I have a ground feeder for them as I like the smaller birds to feed so they have smaller hangers so the pigeons kind of congregate around the ground feeder so I'm worryinabout disease. Thank you
Quite sensible to worry - Trich. is the most prevalent and often spreads among pigeons
It sounds like the pidge is trying to clear an obstruction of some sort. It might be a large piece of food or possibly canker, which needs to be treated. Are you able to put seed and water in a spot where the pidges can't reach? You want to avoid spreading the condition (which can be treated in many cases, depending on the severity).

I have had a pigeon visit my garden about 3 months ago who had canker. Unfortunately it was too far advanced and the poor soul was completely unaware of their surroundings. The sspca euthanised her. This time, if it is canker and is still at the treatable stage, I'd like to contain her and get her prompt treatment but unsure how I could do that? There are so many birds who come to my garden.
I shall remove ground feeders and just leave the wired hangers for the smaller birds in the meantime. I will feel extremely guilty as the pigeons wait every morning but i really don't want anything spreading. If I remove it, that will lessen the likelihood of me catching the affected pigeon. I really want to help her.
You'll need to use seed to lure her down. Try catching her using a box trap (Google Box Trap and check images). To find a pigeon friendly rescue centre near you, check the directory on the www.helpwildlife.co.uk website. They will need something like Tylodox extra to treat it. Alternatively, you can get soluble canker treatments on Amazon or ebay. These can be added to the drinking water for your birds. Personally, I would try to catch it to determine the extent of the condition. Also, removing the potentially infected bird will reduce the risk of contamination.
