Noise from wall 3.m4aThere is a strange noise coming from my wall.
This happens every day and generally starts after about 14.00. This happened last year also but stopped in the winter and started again a few months ago. There is no sign of any animals or anything else gaining access through the outside wall. If I bang the wall the noise doesn't stop or startle whatever is there so it is hard to tell what it is. I have tried to capture this in the attached files. Does anyone know what is making this noise ?
I want to make sure there isn't a protected species in there before proceeding with any further investigation

I've had squirrels come down inside the wall to around head height, but nothing like as low as that. Doesn't sound a squirrely sort of thing to do, going as low as that does it.
I've been wondering about your noise. I think the fact that it's so regular, that it doesn't stop when you knock, and you can't hear scratching or rustling, must add up to mean that it isn't a creature at all. I think it has to be noise from a water pipe or some other human thing like that. For sure it sounds like some sort of animal, but I just don't see that it can be.
I would tend to agree with you but the noise did stop when winter came and then started back up around April which wouldn’t have happened if it was a water pipe.
the noise can change also by getting faster or slower
I hope you are able to find out what it is and come back and tell us, I am really curious as to the answer! Good luck :)
I’m afraid I’m still none the wiser and can’t think of a way how to tell. I thought someone here may recognise the noise but they haven’t so that shows how peculiar this noise is
Is it still happening at the times of day that you originally posted?
Yeah. It’s usually round about 15.00 and stops in the evening
I’ve added another file called ‘Noise from wall 3”. This happened at 16:50 today and is a slightly different noise
Had several listens but seriously nothing comes to mind other than rodents but why to such a rigid timetable and only in one place?? My only suggestion for least invasive way to investigate is to drill a hole into the cavity big enough for an endoscopic camera to pass through to see if anything living in there ...
