I have an injured seagull in my care- and he has about 3-4 days ago developed symptoms of what appears to be wry neck (like found in poultry). Holding head backwards and walking around backwards. Looking for a way to treat for this condition while he heals from his injury.
Which country are you posting from? Wherever you are, you haven’t said why it is in your care, but probably needed expert help. If hit by a car, it has been suffering for 3-4 days.
I am in the ISA - i am a subpermitee for wild life rehabilitation. We don’t have any water bird rehabbers where I am. I work on birds mostly. He has been in my care for about 3 weeks with a broken wing, but suddenly developed the wry neck like symptoms. He is receiving pain meds for his pain. But I am unsure of how to treat the wry neck if it is even wry neck in a seaagulll. In a chicken we give selinium paste to replenish vitamin E deficiency. But not sure if this treatment would help or hurt a seagull.
Ok thanks. I personally think the bird should have been put down as it doesn't sound rehab'able. I don't know the ethics over there, so can't comment and won't judge.
