Hi. My friend has made me a beautiful bird box. I've recently seen a grey tit taking interest and pecking at the entrance hole. I've just measured it and it looks around 26-27mm. Is this wide enough or do I need to make it a little bigger?
When do they start nesting? I have plenty of feed in the garden and wouldn't want her to miss out on using the house.
Thsnks in advance Nicky
Hi Nicky and welcome to the forum ... here is an old thread where hole sizes were discussed

Hi Wendy
That's tweet-tastic I've checked with my friend and it's 25mm so I'll leave it for blue tits for now and hopefully may have some moving in soon fingers crossed, I've had lots of interest
Thanks so much
You're so welcome, please keep us updated?
Hope you have visitors to your new bird box. Welcome from me up in the far north of Scotland, in Caithness, up at the top!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Big hello from a sunny day in Liverpool x
Thanks for all your advice. I have had a visitor this morning a beautiful little blue tit. They popped in had a nose around and I'm guessing checked the width of the door with a lovely flutter. So fingers crossed we'll have guests soon
I'll keep you posted... Have a lovely day!
Apologies for predictive text, was meant to say snow
Good news Nics, do you have a camera in your box? Did you mean 'Great tit' in your header?
Hi Wendy,
Sorry yes I meant great tit.
So they've both just been back again, female popped a few markings around the doorway and went inside then the male popped in too. She stayed on there for a little bit longer. So fingers crossed we have a little love nest.
I'm off work at the moment with this awful seasonal illness, it's been lovely sitting here watching
I don't have a camera sadly no... Wish I did now seen some lovely videos on here.
