Pigeon hatchling

Good morning all. A work colleague has brought in a pigeon hatchling which one of her cats brought home. The poor thing appears to be uninjured and survived the night in a small box under a lamp to keep it warm. What if anything can we do..? I have some dried calci worms which I’m soaking in warm water to see if it will take some. Other than that, we are pretty clueless…

Hi Jez. Just keep it warm for now. Don't try to feed it. Can you upload a photo? In which part of Surrey are you located?

Ahh, ok, my colleague has squirted a little calci worm mulch from a small syringe down it’s throat. It has a desk lamp over the box for warmth and some scrunched up tissues in the box.
Our workplace is East Grinstead so just over the border in West Sussex.

Ok. There's Wildlife Aid in Leatherhead. I'm afraid that East Grinstead is a bit too far for me to travel as I don't drive. Be very careful with syringe feeding as it is easy to get food into the airways by mistake.

Thanks for the pic. It's only a few days old judging by the photo. Keeping it warm is important, as it only has down at this stage. A clean cloth or towel if you have such a thing. It needs to get to a rescue today if you are able.

If you have any surgical gloves (from a first aid kit for example), fill one halfway with warm water, tie it off, wrap it in a cloth and place it in the box to keep the baby warm. Change whenever it cools down. I'm not sure if the desk lamp will be good for its eyes at this age.
