Hello,
Recently I keep seeing what I think are soaring peregrines, but I cannot properly distinguish them. They are definitely either kestrels or peregrines, however most of my books/online don’t help much to distinguish them. Also, I am pretty poor at taking photos of high flying birds, so I thought it’s more beneficial if I identified them (experience anyway). Is there any tips or tricks to differentiating these birds in flight? (I know what they look like when perched or travelling but more specifically when they soar). Thanks, Ellis

Any thoughts on whether this is a kestrel or peregrine? Seen in NYC a couple days ago. It was eating a smaller bird. Based on colors, I thought kestrel, but I’m told a kestrel is more like the size of a robin, and this was bigger than that. I appreciate any feedback!
That's an American kestrel.
Maybe this photo will help since its most likely a American Kestrel
I hope you find it helpful.

I acidently did the wrong name earlyer so iv resent it to who the message was supposed to send to. Maybe the reason it looked bigger is cause it’s snowy If it’s cold snowy or icy sometimes a window isn’t as clear as usual and When the windows aren’t very clear or even if the window just has marks on them it can be harder to identify a bird in a photo as well as if it wasn’t taken out a window. But I think its a very good photo. I think It is most likely an American Kestrel so I have Sent a picture underneath the post of your photo that bobs retired sent. Which should help you even more than if you had a picture without that photo you sent And should also help more than if you didn’t have a picture of one for reference in case you ever need it aswell.
