After watching the Robins today in my garden. I could not end on something that disturbing!
Back in the summer I had the great experience of finding an Owl roost in my local wood. It was a very hot day and having spent some time in the sun looking for birds, as I do, I took a detour into my often over looked local wood. There is a long avenue of very old trees mostly horse chesnut. It was probably once the entrance to the very large house at the far side. The people who own it, the house that is, now enter by road from the other side. This makes it a very quiet wood. That day was extra quiet, apart from some kind of Dear, barking, yes barking at me.
Please feel free to name it! and by that I don't mean George or some such! :-)
Whatever it is, the thing that struck me was how quiet it was. That has the effect of making me practically tip toe as I go. Right in the middle of the avenue, I noticed one of the trees was virtually running with Bird muck! (not pretty) From about thirty feet I got my first sight. high in the canopy!
Well as you can guess I got giddy and fired off one or two shots. (camera)
Eventually! I calmed down and looked for the right angle, like a pro might (Hee Hee)!
Oops sorry about the leaf!
They where high up and at that time my lens was half the size! If they use the same roost next year as they sometimes do! I will have twice the kit and be twice the photographer (Tee Hee) Or at least I will have another opportunity, fingers crossed!
Hope you enjoy this!
I did.
John
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Brilliant photos John, my fave's the black n white. or non colour one. They're such obliging characters where they happily sit staring straight at you. Photographers dream, once spotted that is.

I've been spending time trying to sort through my old photos and videos. I found short video by my son of this roost, watch out for the last 5 seconds a little treat from up north!

John :-)
Lovely video John. Many thanks for sharing that. It looked like a crested tit at the end (it was a bit quick so I might be wrong!).
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Thanks Squirrel, It was my son really, The ID is spot on. Forgot I had seen that.
Fantastic John!

John, have played the video a few times. I just love it. There is something about watching owls and love the superior way they have at looking back at the 'watcher'. Thank you.
Thanks MarJus and Brenda, Owls are the tops for me! Always hoping for the next chance.
I love owls, too! Just great the way they are observing, when you think it 's you who's observing them..
Also enjoyed the video both of owls & of joyful dolphins.
