After watching the Robins today in my garden. I could not end on something that disturbing!
Back in the summer I had the great experience of finding an Owl roost in my local wood. It was a very hot day and having spent some time in the sun looking for birds, as I do, I took a detour into my often over looked local wood. There is a long avenue of very old trees mostly horse chesnut. It was probably once the entrance to the very large house at the far side. The people who own it, the house that is, now enter by road from the other side. This makes it a very quiet wood. That day was extra quiet, apart from some kind of Dear, barking, yes barking at me.
Please feel free to name it! and by that I don't mean George or some such! :-)
Whatever it is, the thing that struck me was how quiet it was. That has the effect of making me practically tip toe as I go. Right in the middle of the avenue, I noticed one of the trees was virtually running with Bird muck! (not pretty) From about thirty feet I got my first sight. high in the canopy!
Well as you can guess I got giddy and fired off one or two shots. (camera)
Eventually! I calmed down and looked for the right angle, like a pro might (Hee Hee)!
Oops sorry about the leaf!
They where high up and at that time my lens was half the size! If they use the same roost next year as they sometimes do! I will have twice the kit and be twice the photographer (Tee Hee) Or at least I will have another opportunity, fingers crossed!
Hope you enjoy this!
I did.
John
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Beautiful photos again John - I love them all but particularly the one where the owl is hanging over the branch checking you out (second owl pic). Wonderful stuff. Many thanks for sharing them.
Squirrel
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Excellent stuff John. I look forward to updated " Pro" pics soon!
Odi profanum vulgus et arceo.
Stonking pics of the roe deer & tawnies!! Both have remained elusive to me (photographically)! I saw plenty of roes in Perthshire but always when driving (no camera to hand...) or too far away!
As for tawnies, again, I hear them (even from my house) and see them at dusk or dawn when I can't take pics!!
Please keep them coming! Superb!!!

Hi HM
What wonderful photos - absolutely beautiful. I can't believe you got not one but two tawnies. I think you should do a calendar album - I'd buy it anyday or forget about the calendar bit and just do the photos! If you can produce photos like these now what pics will you produce when you become a "pro"!!

Absolutely fantastic photos. I am extremely jealous!
Make the most of today because, unlike Sky+, there isn't a rewind button.
Wonderful pics as ever!

Hi,
Some nicely captured shots, I like the black and white gives it a nice moody feel.

Hi John
Beautiful pictures of the Owl and the Roe Deer
You have been very honoured to have all of that action so close to home.
We have only heard Tawny Owls close to where we stay, but never photographed one to this day
Hopefully that will change in the future, {thumbs up}
Kathy and Dave
John, just had to say how much I enjoyed looking at these photographs. They really are superb.
Thanks all, sorry for not responding earlier. I have a new garden visitor and I'm finding it hard to look away!
I will put him on unusual visitors thread!
