Hi all New here, just wanted advice, i have to walk home from work and on the way i go through a few miles of countryside, recently în the last months ive been getting consistently swooped by a large bird which i beleive Is a buzzard due to the sound it makes, which is like a high pitch squeel, any advice on how to get your one to leave me alone as its gotten very close and on more than one occasion ive had to duck to avoid getting hit?
Much appreciated
Peter
Hi Peter. It's not something I've heard of Buzzards doing before. Possibly it has a nest that you are passing and it's seeing you as a threat? If it is that, I would expect the behaviour to stop once any young have fledged. Pure speculation on my part though.
This sounds more like the behavior of tawny owls protecting their newly fledged chicks. They can be quite agressive at this point.
Buzzards can and do defend young, and have been documented doing so. The young are probably out of the nest now, so every chance the issue will resolve itself in a few days or week or so.
