Saw these ovipositing females on a guided walk and I was mesmerised! They are so interesting to watch and truly alien looking. There is no goal with this post, I just felt it was cool and wanted to share it.
They really are something to watch, for such an ancient surviving creature.
I'll never forget the time I saw an Emperor dragonfly ovipositing. It was fascinating to see what I can only describe as blood vessels under pressure, because once the eggs had been deposited, she straightened her body, recomposed herself and the red blood vessel appearance disappeared.
Sadly, the photos of the recomposing where blurred, so I never kept them. I'd upload a copy of the original, but I'm currently doing a back-up, but if you CLICK HERE, you can see the online pic and see what I mean.
The photos and others, are on my Flickr pages.
