Tasty feast!
Hoverfly thingy...well a canny mind away back to last year lol
(Pardon the Scottish Accent)
Thank you.
Thank you for this - I was trying to describe a fly/bee to my husband with spots on it's wings and so happy to see it's a Volucella (hoverfly)!
Is this a white-tailed bumblebee?
Not sure Mrs Ed, but this site may help: https://www.bumblebeeconservation.org/learn-about-bumblebees/species-guide/white-tailed-bumblebee/
When that dragonfly was given its vernacular of '4-spotted', it could be posited that the person deciding only looked at the front pair of wings?
(The rear pair generally have another six).
The last time I said 'yes' to such a question someone reminded me of the difficulties in distinguishing between buff-tail and white-tail. But I can say it is a cotoneaster (exact species currently undetermined) flower that the bee is interested in.
Thank you Tuwit - I do love a fuzzy bee but I am rubbish at recognising them I have a rather lovely jigsaw puzzle which is different types of bee and that was when I realised there are far too many that look the same to me!
Also, thanks for the plant knowledge - this grows EVERYWHERE in our garden. It is indeed loved by the bees and blackbirds which I've just read is common!
Thanks Snappy - I have read the info but I will be honest, I am none the wiser
A Male Broad-bodied Chaser at the pond today. I just love the wing structure. Practicing Macro style shooting with my RF 100-500 lens at 500. (Edited)
Being pedantic, I think it broad bodied Ed, a bit like myself
