Butterflies and Moths 2023
There haven't been a lot of butterflies around here this year so far. The earliest was a fresh Red Admiral on the 3rd of january
Since then I've seen a Speckled Wood & Peacock. There have been Brimstone's about but I haven't seen them. Plenty of time left in the year to go chasing butterflies.
Best wishes

Poor dragonflies, butterflies, moths and other insects have had a dreadful year poor things, as you say the HBHM must be desperate to feed during a heavy shower; same weather here all day.

Over 40 large White and two Small Tortoiseshell butterflies in the garden today. Glad the lavender and buddleia have decided to pop out a few more flowers. I really am glad some butterflies have appeared.
Large White lapping up the Lavender Juice.
Very nice.
Lovely
A few from the recent trip to Somerset. I hoped to see something more unusual that we don't get up north. Where I was staying there were a lot of Small Tortoiseshells on the Buddleia bushes, which we don't get a lot of around my way and a few interesting moths.

Windy & much cooler here today with a few showers but mostly sunny and another explosion of Red Admirals, Peacocks, Painted Ladies plus a few Whites and huge bumblebees!
Nice selection BD, not seen those moths before
Nice to see some flutters BD - the Comma on Blackberry is such an Autumn picture to me - your last one is a Garden Carpet - they are quite a variable moth
