It's well overdue for starting. This is the link to last years thread
Butterflies and Moths 2023
There haven't been a lot of butterflies around here this year so far. The earliest was a fresh Red Admiral on the 3rd of january
Since then I've seen a Speckled Wood & Peacock. There have been Brimstone's about but I haven't seen them. Plenty of time left in the year to go chasing butterflies.
Best wishes

Scarlet Tiger, what a beautifully coloured moth. Nor me, nor have I heard of one, but then, there are so many species of moth in and around the UK.

The ' browns' are about - failed to get any photos the Small Heath or Gatekeeper - they were being fast and busy
Meadow Brown
Small Copper - can't decide if they are late 1st Gen or early 2nd given our poor weather this year -I counted about 15 over the transect
and a beautifully fresh Brown Argus - she didn't want to share an underwing shot

Nice selection Germain. I have not seen any Brown Argos or Small Copper, I checked a couple of days ago the location they were last year...
Lovely pics everyone, bright warm sun here, actually saw small Tortoiseshell on Buddleia blossom today for about 10 seconds before a Robin flew down & perched nearby scaring it away!

In theory both should/could be in a pause now mid June to mid July and then you should start seeing 2nd Gen - fingers crossed come July you will see some
