It's well overdue for starting. This is the link to last years thread
Butterflies and Moths 2023
There haven't been a lot of butterflies around here this year so far. The earliest was a fresh Red Admiral on the 3rd of january
Since then I've seen a Speckled Wood & Peacock. There have been Brimstone's about but I haven't seen them. Plenty of time left in the year to go chasing butterflies.
Best wishes

Thank you Wendy ... . You know what they say, 'not quite over the hill, but its a bloody good view from up here' ...
I'm down the other side BD, slippery slope 'n all dat!!
My box hedging is taking a bit of a battering - the culprit actually started to reverse into the shrub as I was taking it's photo
Small Copper and Green Hairstreaks were showing well on my transect today _ really really pleasing to find the Hairstreaks as they have been poor on this site for a few years

Things have been very slow here with butterflies and moths, and finally, I have started to get some photos....
A brimstone on what looks like a moth orchid

Well captured Mike. Only ever seen a Brimstone in a buttefly house. Like where you are, not a lot of butterfly action going on around here yet. One day last week I saw a Peacock (butterfly ... ), a male Orange Tip and what I think was a female Orange Tip, all flitting around sme brambles for quite a while. Later on I saw a Speckled Wood, but otherwise I haven't seen any butteflies at all this season. Time yet ... .

Thank you.
I can happily report this afternoon in the garden, lots of butterflies flying through mapping out the food sources. Frustratingly, many of the flowers her have been swamped due to the incessant rain, so I'll not be seeing many....
Very nice
Looks like campion to me.
Nice to see a Green Hairstreak Germain, I have only ever seen the Purple Hairstreak.
Nice Brimstone Mike.
