It's well overdue for starting. This is the link to last years thread
Butterflies and Moths 2023
There haven't been a lot of butterflies around here this year so far. The earliest was a fresh Red Admiral on the 3rd of january
Since then I've seen a Speckled Wood & Peacock. There have been Brimstone's about but I haven't seen them. Plenty of time left in the year to go chasing butterflies.
Best wishes

That's not 'fresh' IMO. Part of one wing is lost. It's a survivor! (from possible predation and hibernation).
It's so lovely to see the first butterflies coming through, makes you think of long summer days :) Great photo too, I don't see many Commas now.
The "missing" bit of wing is hidden under the leaf
Nice selection and very interesting to see some of the different moths
Thanks Wendy. Yes I was surprised myself to be fair. They all looked fresh so I presume they are this years.
thanks Wil. Yes got out and about for an hour when we had some sun and got lucky. Its been grey and wet for weeks.
Thanks Noisette. Yes I am hoping to see many more. I am eagerly awaiting with hope that I get to see a White Admiral again this year. Saw one by chance last year. They are quite rare here and not often seen.
Hi tuwit. I am not sure which butterfly you are referring too. The 3 I saw looked pretty fresh and brightly coloured.
Saw this very nice speckled wood butterfly today during a short episode of sun. Before it got cloudy and started raining again. also seeing lots of orange tips about.
Very nice Mr Kes. Have only seen a red Admiral and peacock so far this year.
