22 Aug, Bugs 'n' Stuff

Forecast was dry, and grey but brightening up so went to Fontmell Down where there is always good scope for butterflies... the view and one of 3 Ravens patrolling

I seem to start these posts with bees and flies, today is no exception!

Shiny, slimy snail

Speckled Wood, must've been 40+ through the morning

Most of the early ones were getting underfoot!

Shiny Fly

Meadow Brown... probably outnumbered the Speckled Woods by the end

In all their different guises!

One of the very rare Spiky Bum-Haired Flies

Gatekeeper.... also very numerous

Share and share (and share) alike

Dotty McDotty Gatekeeper

Ladybird... only one I saw this time

Some sort of Robber Fly?

Some sort of Soldier Beetle?

Leaning towards a female Adonis.... but so raggedy!

According to the Lens Roesels Bush Cricket.... never heard of it myself.

Meadow Brown showing how small some of the blues are... even when they're brown...

Regular visitors to my posts will no doubt have noted the Flesh Flies almost always make an appearance lol

Grasshopper

Small Heath... a rarity for me this year

Common Blue

Brown Argus... proper feisty!

Common Blue

Just after this, the Brown Argus took off, then pretty much dive bombed the fly.... toldya they're feisty!

Another Grasshopper

And finally, as the prize for completing the walk, a Gold-Dipped Fly

This then led on to the spider and the moth incident in the larder thread!

Hope you enjoyed the snaps, just to warn you I've a couple of trips to Ferrybridge and Portland to sort through then I'll be posting a pair of wadery, gully, terny fests!
