I noticed again today , more sightings and seems to be on the increase, Our poor Bees and Bee keepers...

Disturbing news Kate, moreso because I see Folkestone and Ashford mentioned, not so many miles from me as the Hornet flies!

It's not just bees - they will take any insect - butterflies, other wasps - they cause major soft fruit damage. IF you spot one do not swat it but get your exact location and watch which way it flies off and report it. They tend to go directly back to the nests. Nests can be anywhere so caution needs to be applied when cutting bramble patches etc as they are very very defensive of their nests. As yesterday we are up to 227 nests on Island

These are from 2021 - these are AH on a tracking set up

AH - note dark bands and yellow socks

Part of a nest - this had been chemically treated

the more people who become aware the better, whilst AH been around many years here ,they do seem to have increased .
