I I’ve had a blue tit show a lot of interest in a next box. Have seen her taking items into the box (unfortunately I don’t have an internal camera).

she’s been a little quieter lately, I have seen her take feathers and cotton into the box which I’m sure is at the later stages of nesting.

The video attached shows her today, I’m almost certain I can hear babies but would she be feeding them from outside of the box? Have a look and let me know what you think she’s up to.

Just to note that the birds moved in around the 5th-10th April

Sorry, I’m a bit of a newbie…. How do you know the difference between male and female. So sorry if this is a stupid question.

Should the male be doing these things? Sorry as much detail from you as possible given this is my first!!

Sorry just to add that I’m purely making the assumption this is the female in the video, I literally haven’t a clue what’s in the box and what this bird is doing.

Thanks Linda! This is exactly what I thought happens, I don’t think the males have much to do with the nest at all. The female makes the nest and then lays eggs, I don’t think males ever enter.

Makes robbos comment even stranger because not sure what was being suggested….

Anyone know if it’s safe for me to put a small camera into the whole to have a look what’s going on? I use a endoscope for DIY which is tiny.

My father thinks this is a bad idea but I’m keen to understand if there are eggs already or what is in fact going on.

I did read that RSPB advise that this can be done as long as you knock to ensure the bird isn’t shocked and leaves on its own accord…..

I think Robbo was suggesting it was the male doing the feeding from the outside and the female was inside incubating or worst case scenario parents gone AWOL..predated perhaps...all guess work am afraid unless you have a camera box but that ain't always good either as then you see the good the bad and the evil sometimes but that's nature ;-)

No I don’t think it’s been abandoned, the female has been taking things all week….. she was quiet yesterday, assume she is incubating but without looking I’m a bit in the unknown.
