Odds & Sods 2023

After yet another successful year on the Odds & Sods thread, initially started I think by Hazy, it might be wise to kickstart the 2023 thread off.

Thank you to those who have contributed to last years thread, and there has been very interesting odds and sods in "Odds & Sods 2022" that aren't enough to place into a dedicated thread, which you can look back on the following link:

What better for me, and as yet, I've not ventured far, ewe know what I mean, with this lassie on Baddesley Clinton estate yesterday....

  • Brilliant photos BD. I especially love the great crested grebes. I did a project on them many years ago when at school. I got good marks for it and really enjoyed learning about them and drawing them! Ever since, I have had a soft spot for these grebes in my heart... thank you Blush And of course the beautiful sweet robin, another favourite! Thanks for sharing! Smile
  • Thanks Tigerss..Nice to see you back.....or maybe I have just missed your comments ;-)
I just sit in my potting shed with door open and throw the wee moose some sunflower seeds...its so cute and comes so close...not seen the they young goldie again so hopefully it made it back up to the nest as parents are still flying in and out.....

  • Thanks Linda, I haven't been on much recently but I have been glued to a Golden Eagle nest in Bucovina!! Sadly, by a tragic accident, one of the eaglets died. But we still have one white little fluffball Sparkling heart. I have been popping in now and then, and catching up with all the lovely photos everyone has been taking. Also, finding out where people are going when they are up here our beautiful neck of the woods lol. I am trying to coax a beautiful white pigeon (with a little grey), to come and take food from my hand lol I can't help myself it's so pretty! Watch this space!!!
  • Linnet on the valley hedgerows this morning. We don't really get many around my local area so nice to see.

  • Nice one Bob ;-)

  • They are back. :-)

Just outside my window.  Love these little birds!  Eating a dandelion seed.  That is why we leave the lawn full of these flowers.  Just sorry I had to reduce the quality of the picture to fit.

  • I was heading home and had just turned left from the Blackwater valley path onto the path to Moor Green Lakes car park, when two wrens flew across me. I couldn't believe my luck, when one stayed on a tree trunk, about 5 yards from me. It didn't disappear into the undergrowth. Slowly pull camera up while turning it on, take off lens cap, and twist lens to full 600mm. No time to put camera on monopod, simply point in general direction of bird.

The bird stayed visible for me to reel off 11 shots!! And it was in the sun, stunned amazement!

You live for days like this.

My aim is to photograph a wren in full territorial song, when it is fluffed up and has its wings part extended. I almost managed it once, having just got the bird in focus, it stopped, cocked its head and glared at me as if to say, 'Go away, nasty human.'

90% luck, 5% field craft, 5% camera skills.
