Hello all.
I was pleasantly surprised the other evening to see that lovely shade of blue down by the water. After watching for a while, I could see that the little blue shape was having an interaction with an orange blob!
I ran to get the camera, and these are some of the pictures.
At first I thought some parental instruction was going on, but I think it was more a dispute over territory.
Unless i'm mistaken, younger Kingfishers have duller feet. So I think that there was a showdown between an adult and a youngster. It escalated , and ended up with a scrap in the water. The youngster then flew off.
Finally, the victorious adult ( perhaps female) bird sat and dried off for a while.
The interesting thing is that, while this was going on ( for around 30 minutes) there were people occasionally walking right past them - within 8 feet , but due to the high weeds and foliage they weren't noticed. I was fortunate enough to be seeing it from an upstairs window.
It makes you wonder what we may be passing by every day on our various duties!
Anyway - thanks for looking.
Keep well
Tony

Lot to learn
What a fabulous sight to see, and to capture the event, WOW !
Another possibility, it could be sibling rivalry as thy flex their wings and try to establish their own territories. I been watching similar escapades with our resident magpie family.
