A Trip to the Yorkshire Dales from Suffolk - Part 2

On our second day we met up with my wife's uncle who lives in Bradford and walked along the Wharf from from Burnsall and ended the day back at Linton Bridge.

First spot of the day, a Spotted Flycatcher, complete with fly.

Common Sandpipers popped up everywhere, we've not seen them in Suffolk.

Plenty of little fish for the many birds that have them on their menu.

The Goosanders further up the river this time, I'm assuming they're same ones as the numbers were the same.

At Linton Bridge the Dippers were very active in the water.

Off for more food.

The Goosanders, always somewhere in the background.

On the weir, a family of 6 or 7 Grey Wagtails, I couldn't get them all in one shot unfortunately.

Yet another Common Sandpiper.

Finally the Goosanders enjoying themselves in the Weir.

Many thanks for looking through these, there'll be one more post from days walking away from the river, mostly in the hills.

Best Wishes,

Trevor

  • Oh what a fabulous 2nd set with amazing captures on camera and don't think I could have dragged myself away from that area or those beautiful birds !! that young dipper and the spot-fly are such amazing photos along with the rest of the set and so nice to see the family of grey waggies, sandpiper and the goosey-goosey ganders. The photo of the tiddler fish shows just how clear that water is and what a beautiful area to explore.
Just so many wonderful species and photos to take in so going back for another slower browse through, thanks so much Trevor,

  • Lovely to catch up the the Gooseanders again, the youngsters are growing well, good food to be had evidently in that river. Especially nice to see a family of Grey Waggies, and lovely markings on the Common Sandpiper. Best for me have to be the Dipper and youngster, fabulous pics of the feeding, well done again Trevor.

    Lot to learn

  • Certainly be interested in your pictures away from the river Trevor as I've spent literally 100's of hours in them hills in all weather day and night. Many years ago I was involved with the local fell rescue team and through that training I really learnt about the area. Both Chris and myself grew up on Wharfedale and Nidderdale hills we even had our honeymoon in a caravan in the area 40 odd years ago

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • It's always a pleasure to look through your photos Trevor....to get that spotted flycatcher perched with a fly...cracking shot...you never fail to capture wildlife in all its glory!!!
    So jealous!!! ;-)

  • Spectacular again Trevor... easy eyecatching favourite for me to pick this time, the Dipper in the shower of spray, wonderful image. And the rest ain't too shabby either lol

Thanks for sharing again, and looking forward to part 3. Certainly cheered me up after my positive covid test has kept me housebound for a while!
  • Thanks everyone yet again, that had to be my most productive day with Dippers ever. Feeding the youngster kept them busy and in one place for ages giving me loads of opportunities to photograph something I've never been lucky enough to see before, the Dippers diving into and bursting out of the water. I've only seen them just slip into and out of the water before.

    Thanks,

    Trevor

  • Hi PB,
Many thanks, glad you liked the photos.
Best wishes for you and Mrs PB and hope that Covid is no more than just a nuisance for you both.
