Too small for a butterfly so a moth. I saw about three different
Butterflies but not one settled and flew past me.
Wasp or Bee ? not sure about what looks like sweetcorn on
its leg ?
Another Moth really tiny
No sweetcorn on this one
Wasp or bee ?
? Not sure what this is
It would be nice to know what this is ?
Green Bottle Fly ?
I walked all the way around the Reservoir and not one butterly
landed to have its photo taken not to worry it was a lovely sunny
day
The second and 3rd one with the Bee is likely a Honey Bee. The photos of the other Bee without a pollen Basket I think is likely a Bee mimic. The photo of the red beetle is likely a soldier Beetle and with the greenbottle I think that might be a green bottle. For the Moth im not 100 percent sure but I think it might be a Common nettle Tap Moth But like I said I’m not completely sure with that one.
That’s ok. By the way with wasps and bees there are ways to tell them apart. Bumblebees are more fat and fluffy rather than looking like a honey bee. whereas the honey Bee doesn’t look fluffy and doesn’t have bright yellow stripes. for wasps they tend to be bright yellow. Rather than the orangey yellow that honey bees tend to have. And they don’t have the bright yellow stripes that Bumblebees have. Wasps also have black patterns on there back like the common wasp has an anchor like pattern on its back for example. I hope this is helpful
Thanks again Zo i have been stung three times by wasps, not nice.
No I don’t think it’s suposed to be though like most protective defense mechanisms Wildlife has developed they temd Not to be. And It ranges from things that can irritate your skin to being poisonous to looking or being distasteful and others too. It’s designed to ward off predators. If it was pleasant I doubt the stinger would do much good. they use it to protect them self’s when they feell annoyed or threatened. Also Interestingly Wasps tend to be more agressive than Bumblebees. And With Bumblebees and wasps its only the females that sting. With males there role is to mate with the females that lay eggs. Interestingly wasps are pollinators aswell.
(Pardon the Scottish Accent)
