This one reminded me of Caroline's Robberfly, I had to rescue it from a tiny spider's clutches :-)

Ooh Gaynor, I think that is one of the Sphex or digger wasps. They are fascinating but can be a little tricky to identify

Thanks Caroline, I have just had one in the shed too, and managed to put it outside, funny two in one day.

Could it be a 'Pimpla Hypochondriaca'.I don't really know, I've just been looking in my bumper book of bugs :-)
Looks similar.

I believe this wasp is a female 'Ichneumon Stramantarius'. Apparently females have a yellow tip to their abdomens, and a white band around their antenae.

It could be Billysdad, but it won't get any tablets from me!!!!!!
