Well it's time to start a new thread for this year. I saw my 1st Red Admiral of the year yesterday & have had a couple of moths in the house & in the trap overnight.
The house moths come out of the firewood (I think), Ive had 3 around the computer this month, I just keep putting them back out Mompha subbistrigella
Photo taken of it in the plastic pot before I threw it out.
Then in the trap a couple of moths, Eudonia angustea, always around in the winter,
& this one which is several weeks early, not sure why, Orthosia incerta "Clouded Drab Moth"
Last years thread is here https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/206393/butterflies-moths-2020 for those that want to have a bit of bedtime reading.
Best wishes

This year I've started using the camera again and got these photos of marbled whites and meadow browns, which are almost the exclusive two species of my garden and fields.

Thanks Cin, I have other images of the Skipper so when I get a little time I'll have a peruse..... if it is an Essex then 2 new to me ones on one trip out
As for the frit, I did ask it nicely to show me the underside lol
Have not seen many butterflies about the garden this year, seems a lot fewer than last year. Found this yesterday on Verbena Bonnerensis of which we have quite a few about the garden.
There was also the first Gatekeeper seen this year but as it never landed no photo.
Could someone please help with ID of this flutterbye, found at a distance on Dunwich Heath last week. I wonder if it is a Skipper of some sort?
Not the best of pics as it was some distance. I dismissed Essex Skipper as it was in Suffolk, is there such a thing??
Many thanks
Snap Tony, I counted 18 in the garden today and they have been a joy to watch
