Here is a colourful little bug I caught on some lavender stems yesterday. Looks like it's taken a bit of a bash on one side though. ID please?

yes I thought Sandra had it with the rainbow leaf beetle until reading that it only lives near Snowdon. Then I also found the rosemary beetle (in Wikipedia) which is similar but smaller, and native to southern Europe, and - since 1994 - southern UK. Bingo. Glad you agree Germain.
This one must have been a young one as it was only a few mm long. It was feeding on lavender another of its foodplants, however I'm happy to lose the odd flower to this charmer. A tiny but gorgeous addition to my garden list.

You should have put a health warning out for that one Wendy, or maybe an age limit, only suitable for the under fives to look at!

This is my Yuck of the year, a slug eating an earthworm! I dug them up yesterday & the worm managed to get away after I washed them for a photo session.

Personally I think the slug was being a bit greedy & yes I know they aren't insects but I couldn't find a Slug & Snail thread.
