Add your "Odds & Sods" here thread ... 2020

Starting with a first for me ... Sparrowhawk in neighbour's garden here in quarry, only ever seen a seemingly lost youngster many years ago!

Grabbed ID vid footage through d/glazed door, then battery died & by time I'd replaced it to go outside for better res a delivery driver stopped next door & frightened the bird off!! grrrrrr

Hope it's a one-off for the sake of my Spadger horde!

 2013 photos & vids here

  • I think this was just about the only bird I photographed during June

It was the best view I've had of a Whitethroat or any warbler all summer.

    And moving to another tree

  • And what a beauty it is !

    (Pardon the Scottish Accent)

  • Gorgeous, Nigel--thanks!

    Kind regards, Ann

  • Fabulous photo captures Nige, I do love the various warblers, pity this year has been so disrupted with being able to catch up with them in the great outdoors. Really enjoying the photos, thanks.

  • This is a definite ahhh moment, for those so inclined.  Caught on a trail cam I put out on a footpath in Finchampstead.

I've struck gold with this footpath, which is actually quite busy, both with human and animal traffic.

This particular spot is a animal highway. I've caught badgers, foxes and now Muntjac deer scent marking.

Video cut in half to get past file size limit.

    Now the stag marking territory.

Here's a good spot to mark, he sniffs.

Head lowered to start scent marking.

A good rub to transfer scent

90% luck, 5% field craft, 5% camera skills.

  • Cracking photos Nigel, not sure I'll get to see any this year.
  • Thanks all
    Nice catch Angus

  • This Thrush now seems to be resident in our garden now.

  • Thanks Nigel for the views of the Whitethroat, superb shots.
Interesting to see the Muntjac Angus.
Lucky you Tony if indeed the Thrush is making it's home in your garden, lovely bird.

    Lot to learn
