Well here goes, for better or worse, another year of moths. The old thread is here https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/196070/mostly-moths-2018/1221500#1221500
To start us off a couple of silly ones that came to greet the first trap of the year on the night of the 1st to 2nd january. It was around 6-7°C all night & frosts ever since so I gave it a go.
A Double-striped Pug
& same one closed
& White Speck
Nothing earth-shattering, but a start!
Best wishes

I had a few good ones again lately, this one I saw in the Pyrenees a few years ago but never here, a Scarlet Tiger, it landed on my shoe!
& alongside it was a Cream-Spot Tiger looking up at me
so I popped them on the sheet as I didn't want to tread on them
& a little tiddler yesterday morning Caloptilia stigmatella
It rains most days at the moment so it's a case of dashing out a the last minute if it looks like it might be dry!
None of this wine and sugar soaked rope nonsense, eh, just wear the right shoes! Perhaps you could try those trainers that light up next time, they ought to attract even more moths!
I know these are common, but I rather like the patterns when you get close enough to see them - a Garden Grass-veneer
And an unmistakable Cinnabar
Both from Lunt Meadows when it was sunny on Sunday

Yes great moths Nigel. It's lovely when you can walk across a flowery field in the sun & chase moths all afternoon! My shoes aren't the only thing that attract the moths, I have to wear a hat as the UV reflects from my hair (a delicate shade of grey)! LOL I tried to reply last night but got locked out. Said I didn't have the right to reply & wouldn't let me sign in either. Grrrr. Does this happen often?
