Seems like the best plan possible H ....... if only!
Not only do we need more Kestrel boxes across the country but we might need more large scale planting of tussocky grasses, either reinstated on some motorway verges and/or elsewhere on large open spaces. It was the planting of trees and bushes on the then thought-to-be-boring motorway verges which helped greatly to reduce the Kestrel population, sadly. We heard this last bit (about the planting of things on verges) in a talk a few years ago from one of the people who had been partly responsible for urging the planting of the trees and bushes on verges something like 25+/- years ago! Apparently, it is in tussocky grassland of the sort which used to be on all motorway verges that the major population of the small mammals which are the preferred prey of Kestrels can be found.
Kind regards, Ann
I am sure that MrK will be around in the new year. He sure made quick work of that last rat, a clean around on the tower top plate, a whoopsie and away!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
