Great bit of research guys. I don't remember that post so lucky someones got a good memory. Pity aiki doesn't post on here anymore as we miss her expertise.
Finally caught up with a Holly Blue. Rubbish photo in a gloomy spot but better than nothing I thought
But then it flew to a better place AND opened its wings. A female I think because of the dark fringing to the upper wings.

That is a Holly Blue Tony, I will never make a mistake naming one again even if it is not as nice as the Common Blue :)

Nice 1 Nige, I think I saw one the other day but it did not land :(
Good shots, Nigel. I'd never seen one with its wings open until mine and now your photos. Only ever seen the under wings before.
I hadn't really considered that aspect but you may be right. I was more worried I wouldn't get it in focus because the wings were neither fully open nor shut - positively the worst from a technical point of view, but at least some blue was on display ... or so I was thinking when I took them! I was very pleased with how they turned out in the end :)

I suppose not all butterflies come to a good end. The fly is easy but can you spot the spider?
