Unknown said: Now, this is where I need some help. At first I assumed this was a female Common Blue and it may well be. However, I did wonder whether it might be a Brown Argus which look very similar. Unfortunately, I couldn't see the base of the upper wing to see if there was any hint of blue or violet. Apparently, a Common Blue has a wing spot on the underside of the forewing in the area shown below which the Brown Argus doesn't. What do you experts think - female Common Blue or Brown Argus?

Sorry Tony, I missed this one, although I'm no expert!! It looks a bit like a Brown Argus to me because it has tufts of black in the border, which common blue doesn't. Also the cell doesn't look like it's there, you do have quite a good view of it. Will post one of mine after lunch & have another look.
Here are a couple of mine that i'm fairly sure of
It's always tricky though, I have a lot of unknowns! LOL Generally I think that Brown argus are smaller & settle better than Common Blues. If it won't stop when the sun is out it's usually a Common Blue!

Thanks Hazel. I've decided it's a Brown Argus even if I'm wrong.
@Nigel, great shot of the Green Hairstreak. Haven't seen one yet this year.
@Paul, Small copper is one of my favorites too. The colour really glows.
