It was more like late summer here yesterday - Limpy and I decided to take advantage of the lovely weather by heading to Landguard Point for a quick explore.
The reserve was absolutely full of these, singing from all directions:
This magpie flaunts its bottom at the camera as its companion watches.
'You could have told me there was a camera pointing at me!'
'Some lookout you are. I'm off!'
Further on we saw this beautiful wheatear - and it posed!
It very obligingly showed its rear as well.
Gulls and their choices of perch are an ongoing joy!
This is a brilliant time of year to see loads of cormorants and geese flying in their big flocks. I think these are Brent geese.
I couldn't resist these contrasting boats.
A solitary herring gull minding its own business.

A blackbird sounds the alarm. Probably warning of another blackbird!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Lovely collection, Clare--thanks for posting! I believe that birder is watching you, Clare, and I recognise the apparel! I love the Magpies and the Robins, well, all of them. That last Robin looks to be auditioning for your Christmas cards!

Very enjoyable commentary and photos Clare, glad you got out to explore the coast on Sunday. Love the Wheatear especially but can't resist those corvids too :) Earl (the crow you named for us) gives us "that stare" as he faces the door and keeps his beady eyes on us some mornings until we throw him a chunk of cheese or pastry - gotta love 'em !
Btw, I'd recognise that birder anywhere so he can stop hiding behind the bins lol

Good stuff, Clare. Robins always make good subjects and I like the thieving Magpie making off with the acorn.
Glad to read elsewhere that Limpy is feeling better.
