I woke up at a hideously early hour this morning - I eventually gave up trying to get back to sleep and headed out to Felixstowe Ferry. The sun was just up and a fishing boat was returning from what I hope was a good night:
Strangely enough it's the same boat I spotted heading out on Monday afternoon!
'What are you doing here this early? I was enjoying my peace and quiet.'
An elegant sailing boat getting an early start.
These crows arrived at the caff about three hours before opening time!
A better view than its backside.
The official foot ferry at its overnight mooring.
It's amazing that this appealing bird will develop from this........
.....into this!
This jackdaw was staying a safe distance from the gulls and the bigger corvids.
The Avocet makes a lovely picture as she heads out to sea.
The herring gulls contemplate an alternative career in advertising.
I do have a real soft spot for these lovely sailing boats.
This herring gull wonders why it isn't allowed to crab from this side of the jetty.
It's the magpie's turn to arrive too early for breakfast at the caff.
One of four sandwich terns which flew past.
The gulls had an impromptu get-together on the sea wall.
They can achieve some remarkable feats of flexibility!
An early walker on the wall prompts a mass scarper.
The magpie flies gracefully over to Bawdsey.
The Godfather lands neatly on a suitable perch.
Another tern fly-by, complete with a spiralling poo!
The starlings were enjoying a communal preen at the Ferry Boat Inn.
They are such beautiful little birds and I love hearing them chatting away.
This sparrow doesn't look convinced that my camera is harmless.
This male looks much less fussed.
I hope you all enjoy these.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Lovely set of shots, Clare. You'll have to get up early more often.

Not that early. I was awake at 4.15!!
I'm actually a naturally early riser but there are limits.
Wonderful pics again, Clare. Agree about the elegant sailing boat. Godfather's landing is terrific action shot.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Lovely set of pics, not so sure about the time they were taken though. Reminds me we haven't been out that way for months, time to hit the A14 for a trip and buy some fresh crab from the shop at the ferry, hopefully still open.

Worth getting up early for Clare! The light is lovely -all great photos, but I love the Gulls on the ice cream van and the expression of the GBB Gull with the Puffin statue, lol

Dawn bliss Clare, it looks very peaceful, I love to see the boats slowly coming and going, and love the way there seems to be no humans around!
Lot to learn
I woke up at 4.30a.m. this morning and thought to myself, no I'm not doing a Clare, somehow managed to go back to sleep!!
Well, if you are going to be awake and unable to sleep at that horrendous hour then there aren't many better things you could do with the time than appreciate the scenery and wildlife without too much human interference.
