One of the best things about gulls (and corvids) is that they are brilliant at letting you know when something unusual is in the vicinity. I was innocently pottering about at Felixstowe Ferry with my camera (as I do) when several gulls started alarm calling. I hurried to the jetty to pay particular attention to this pair:
We don't speak a word of each other's language but their body language was doing a fine job!
Over there, is it?
It's not an incoming osprey, is it? Sadly it can't be as you'd be mobbing it!
So I need to look over there, do I?
Wow!
What a lovely pair of buzzards! Thanks for the alert, guys.
I was very happy to see these but perhaps the gulls will alert me to an osprey next time. I live in hope!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
You never know Clare, they just might!!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
All you need to do now is teach them to use a bird identification chart, where they can peck against that osprey picture!
