I thought I'd start a new thread for 2017 & THIS is a link to the previous thread. To newcomers, all are welcome & you can post your moths, identified or not, on here. Any items related to moths too & of course caterpillars (all contributions of caterpillars welcomed by Wendy who is their substitute mum!)
Here are my first of the year, one from yesterday morning on the door, White-speck,
Which encouraged me to do a trap under the garden table & the White-speck came back along with a Black-spotted Chestnut
Unfortunately they were both dead, no sign of the spider, but it may be living under the garden table. Ah well, I suppose we all have to eat! I don't think I'll be doing another one for a while, this is just 2 or 3 warm days before it gets cold again.
Best wishes

UFO from last month. Dark form of the dotted border? Agriopis marginaria f. fuscata ?

Moth trap last night as very mild but not much in the way of takers ... one of my favourites, may be common but very elegant with it!
This newbie which I have had a go at ID-ing but not got far even though it does have these very unusual labial palps!!
Any idea??
Nice one EB & great to have you back on board!
Hi Wendy, looks like an Agonopterix to me.
Edge: Yes I'd run with your ID there.
I'm doing a home & away tonight, got one here & also one at another spot about 15 mins away so 6am start tomorrow! got to make the most of dry warmish night, although the moon is a bit full.
Thanks H, just have to decide which one now!
Good luck with your labours ... have set up again here as winds are light but cooler than last night ... thrown the 24 Led lantern into the mix too, bit like Blackpool here!! Lol
Good luck with yours too. I've got the wine rope out too, just for the fun of it!
Sorry to say that I've packed it all in for tonight ... nothing visiting & it's gone very chilly!! Hope you have better luck & am definitely going to try some of that sticky stuff ... not personally of course! Lol
Not too bad here, 5 species & about 10 moths, it went down to 7°C this morning, but 5 miles away at my other site it went down to 3°C & it was foggy & the sheet was frozen on the ground, only 2 moths covered in goose pimples! LOL Photos later, I'm off out for the morning again today.
Ha ha! Bet Moths weren't only ones with goosebumps H!
Look forward to being envious over your pics!
Your right there Wendy, lucky it wasn't a sleepover but I was up at 6h00 & out soon after so twas a bit chilly! I ended up with 8 species at home, the only new one for the year being this pretty Blossom Underwing, it was covered in dew so I took some more photos this afternoon when it had dried out!
I'm off to the reserve tonight so hope it's not so cold as I'm sleeping overnight!
