What a lovely day we had here yesterday - it was really much too nice to stay inside so, with Minsmere closed for Christmas, the Ferry beckoned:
It was almost low tide - the light and calm conditions were just begging to be snapped.
Gulls are very clean birds - they work hard to keep their feathers in tip top condition.
I'm a herring gull and I'm hard.
I'm a great black-backed gull and you've got no chance.
I'm a turnstone and I'm minding my own business!

I love the evening light on the mudflats.
No wonder we're a quiet hot spot for tourism. This place is like taking a serious step back in time.
This redshank doesn't look overly impressed at finding itself the subject of my camera.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

Thanks for,sharing Clare, you certainly would not be out on Boxing Day here. We had horrendous weather, severe gales, snow and hail, then no power for a few hours. Caithness even had a mention on the BBC News! Phew not nice, a beautiful day today.

Lovely set of photos, Clare, It’s always nice to see a bit of scenery in a thread, it gives a much better feel for the area. My favourite photos are of the two young Gulls; I’m thinking the Herring Gull is a 2nd winter bird and the Great Black-backed is a 1st winter bird but I’m open to correction if anyone thinks otherwise. Over the last year or so I’ve become more and more taken with Gulls, and trying to work out the species and ages of them. !! :-)

I actually thought the herring gull might be a 3rd winter bird as it had quite a lot of adult silver on its back. I could well be wrong, though!
