..........are spectacularly still in residence! After weeks of hearing about them Limpy and I finally headed up the A140 in an attempt to try to see them. Unbelievably, after following the directions of the most excellent Matt at Minsmere, they were in the first place we tried - and they were spectacularly obvious. This was the first time either of us had seen waxwings and they certainly didn't disappoint:
Lots of preening was going on:

Really, really pleased to have finally seen these beautiful birds - and with the amount of berries still remaining I hope they'll be there for a good while!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Great captures, you lucky pair! Thanks for sharing

Fantastic Clare - so pleased for you that you have finally managed to see Waxwings - love the shots of them amongst all those berries. Like you say, there are enough left to last them a while yet!

Wonderful Clare and Limpy. They certainly are a joy to behold.
Kind regards

Oh how fantastic to catch up with the Waxwings Clare, well done to you and Limpy for making the effort and for the gorgeous photos you've brought back for us. The berries seem to be running out here so even the Redwings seem to have vamoosed !!

Well done you two. Definitely worth the trek up the A140. All great photos but I especially love the ones feeding in the berries.
I keep hoping they will venture further south but they look like they might be staying for a while.
