I suddenly spotted this male Blackcap on the sunflower feeder competing for space with the Greenfinches. Not great photos as shot through glass on a gloomy damp morning. Never seen one as early in the winter as this.

Nice visitor for the garden Tony, I've only had a fleeting visit but like you I was wondering if several early garden visitors is pointing to a bad winter. I would go for the Bears being right Hazel I would certainly trust them over weather forecasters.
